A is for Abolition

A movement to abolish or eliminate systems that harm people. Historically, the term abolition referred to the institution of slavery. In December 1865, Congress passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, abolishing the enslavement of people nationwide. The most notable abolitionists include Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown, and Sojourner Truth.
